Help me! Asap! What could this be!

Hey everyone, i see these forums and i see a lot of people here are out to help and its great to see this, this is awesome, My names Hiren and i live in auckland new zealand, my best friend Alan has been ill for a while now and still has not been diagnoised! the symptoms he has are whack! hes only young 21 year old handsom cambodian kid. Doctors in new zealand have done MRIS and Blood tests, many different test but have not found anything and hes only getting worser, below listed are his symptoms and the timeline of when they started

DECEMBER 2008: double vision
FEBRUARY 2009: Weight loss but eating heaps but still loosing weight
MAY 2009: personality change, sleepless nights, less aware of things and extremely forgetful
JULY 2009: Extremely forgetful, DROOLING WHEN EATING AND VERY DIFFERENT SKIN RASHES, DRY BITS OF SKIN
OCTOBER 2009: FOOT DRAGGING WHEN WALKING AND TRIPPING UP HEAPS, SKIN RASHES ALL OVER BACK AND STOMACH
DECEMBER 2009: UNABLE TO WALK, SPEECH PROBLEMS, ENDLESS CRYING, SOMETIMES SMILING EXTREMELY

FEBRUARY 2010: UNABLE TO WALK, TALK, AND HAVING PROBLEMS SWALLOWING, DRINKING WATER WITH PARENTS FEEDING HIM WITH A SPOON.

we are very desperate in what to do, at the moment the plan is to take him over to china to a professional hospital as his parents speak chinese to, living in new zealand language has been a barrier but with his sister who speaks english as her first language and me (his best friend) we have been talking to doctors on behalf and its been repeat of tests after repeats, but the main tests mris havn't shown anything, we first suspected him of M.S but after 2 mri scans its confirmed its not that, theres nothing explaining whats going on.

Please people! help me!

He really needs to see an expert in neurological disorders. This website has a host of forums on lesser known illnesses.

hi gotflo.
whatever your friend has sounds more complicated/multi system to be als.
many of his symptoms point away from als,especially the rashes(more common in ms)
there are many things that can imitate als some less serious but given the rate of your friends progression you might want to look in to prion diseases.
also with the personality changes,was that early on? if so theres things like creutzfeldt-jacob disease/spongiform encephalopathy.
he definatly needs to be seen by an expert neurologist,even though mri's were ok (how long ago was that?)if he had chronic progressive ms mri's can look ok.

Hi Gotflo,
I'm so sorry about your friend! I agree with Caroline-while ALS is complicated, your friends symptoms don't fit ALS by any stretch. Get him to a neurologist as quickly as possible. I pray you all find answers and clarity soon!

hey caroline! thanks heaps for your reply, his last mri was in mid january i believe, it got sent to australia, usa and spain i believe for international research, as far as i know the australian tests came back and that his mri was norma lin it , ive requested for his medical file and am having to wait another 2 weeks (legal procidures) before i get it, i will then have a copy of it and we will be passing it on to specialists because the neurologists here in nz that are currently his doctor havn't been help at all. At the moment specialists in china are the next step and they have requested his file.
