Ever wonder if als is just as prevalent in China, and other similar countries that we do not hear a lot about? Just a little food for thought.

It is estimated that there are as many as 200,000 people diagnosed with ALS in China. For most of them, once their disease is diagnosed, all they can do is to stay at home and wait for the disease to develop.

In the later stages patients have difficulty in breathing and can only survive on a ventilator. However, this is expensive, costing between 700 and 1,000 yuan ($94-135) every day.

Even if the patients can afford it, they can only prolong their lives by a few years. On average, ALS patients survive between three to five years.

This is what I wanted to try to probe a little deeper with Barry's map..........if we could gather info from other forums around the world

Thanks! There is always things running through my mind. There just seems to be no pattern to this disease.

Only because you mentioned China specifically did it strike me that I recall reading former leader Mao Tse Tung died from ALS!

Go check the link that I posted in the Research thread. Very interesting!
