My mom is 86 with bulbar onset als. She is still strong, uses a rolling walker. Can't speak, can't eat (has peg), and gets really tired easily. We have an appt. with the pulmonologist next month to be evaluated for the bipap, as I think she could definitely benefit from that at this point. I am with her in the mornings and evenings, my sil does one feeding and my niece moved in so that there is someone there overnite. So we are very blessed to have so much family involved. My mom rarely goes out anymore. She will come to my house sometimes but I have steps and the bathroom is downstairs and she just seems more comfortable in her own place not having to see anyone but family. She is lonely and depressed. She is beginning to talk about not wanting to go on like this. What do I say? I understand, and I think at 86 she should be allowed to make this decision for herself, but I know that my brothers won't agree. I need some guidance on this issue please. She was diagnosed in 12/2012, speech issues started at least 3 years ago, and swallowing issues have been going on for a couple of years.
