My name is Claire and I am the 0ld (82) caregiver for my husband. He is 87 years old and was diagnosed at Johns Hopkins in 2012 of bulbar ALS. He is a veteran of WW11 so we have help with medications, etc. His symptoms started when he was 80 and has been a slow progression. In November of 2014 he fell and broke his hip. It was amazing, but after the operation he actually seemed some better--was able to swallow his food better & breathing was better.. The doctors were very amazed. Then in December of 2015 he fell again and this time it seemed to speed things up. At the present time he is able to walk with a rolator, but has compromised use of his hands and can't talk. He does not have a peg but uses a BiPap at night. We attend a ALS clinic every few months which has been a great help. I prepare most of the food using a Ninja and Vitamix. Along with added Boost Plus he has been able to maintain his weight. I have learned much from this site and hope that I might contribute something in the future.
Thank you for all your past help.
