My PT set me up with a cane and it for sure helps with stability however, I find that my hand cramps/spasms significantly when using it. I've tried a couple of different handle styles - derby, foam grip. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have a useful solution? I found the same with my hiking poles. I need to use the right hand with cane as my left hand is more spastic and much less coordinated, it didn't work when I tried to switch sides.

Not I. It rendered a cane unusable to me. I found when I was using the cane to support my weight, it was causing me to clamp my hand harder. Walking poles were also a hazard as I couldn't seem to coordinate them and walk. Have you tried forearm crutches? Do you use AFOs?

I worked with an equipment specialist who, after trying out a variety of equipment and observing me, basically told me a walker was the way to go, but I wasn't ready to accept that.

I don't use AFOs. My next Physio is at the end of the month I'll bring it up then but thought maybe there is something obvious. I'm not ready for a walker.

You might think about a "compact" category upright walker, even if for the future or occasional long walks. There are multiple brands, including the Elenker brand on Amazon. You have the broader weight distribution of a rollator, which might reduce the hand spasms, a more upright position for posture and vision, with less of a shopping basket look.

The Vive brand is more like a forearm crutch/rollator style.

Thank you! I will go and have a look at those.
