Hi,

My name is Andy Warrick, I am 24 years old and have been health obsessed for some time, particularly regarding ALS fears. Recently I noticed what I thought was weakness in my right hand, which I now feel in my left hand as well. I tried working out today to see if it was true weakness, and while there didn't seem to be any actual weakness, my hands did feel somewhat stiff (especially my right hand) and somewhat poor on their grip of things and slightly numb as well. Additionally, I seemed to noticed a slight dip in my finger muscles near where the index finger and thumb meet, could this be a sign of split hand? Here is what I am describing:
(photos removed per forum posting rules- only doctors should assess for atrophy)
Does this look like possible early ALS signs (especially on the right hand, notice the dip) or just normal? I haven't surveyed my palm ridges in a while, so could be benign, but not sure?

ALS is a clinical failure -- the inability to do things you used to do without thinking. Anxiety can easily cause a feeling of stiffness and even numbness, and it's quite common for what you think you feel to go from one hand to two.

See a doctor, NP, or PA who can reassure you about your strength and suggest a resource for your health anxiety, which can wreck your life if you let it. Meanwhile, if you are doing anything repetitively with your hands for work, texting, gaming, and so on, you might want to ease up for a while because anxiety can also stress you out to the point of obsessively testing. Instead, go for a walk or sail and check out the beautiful autumn leaves and water views in your neck of the woods.
