Hello everyone, I wish you all the best. For 6 months, I have pain in my left arm when I do an activity. I don't feel any power loss. At the same time, pain occurs when I move my right foot. Nothing was found in the physical examinations. I had an EMG taken, two muscles in both arms and two muscles in both legs were examined and it was said that there was no sign of als. Could the EMG be wrong? If there was a bulbar onset, was an emg done only on the arms and legs?

Hi Ray,

Have you read here? Read Before Posting
It answers your questions- pain is not something that would cause a neurologist to be concerned about ALS/MND.

Your doctor examined you and did not find signs of what you fear. You have also been cleared via EMG, which would have given different results if there was an issue with motor nerves. An EMG of a symptomatic limb would definitely show something- it would not be wrong. You complain of pain in your limbs, had them tested and now you are worried about bulbar, but you do not report any of the symptoms anywhere that indicate a concern for a neurological disease. This is not how ALS works.

Please return to your doctor if you have further concerns.

If your pain persists, I would see a physio who can evaluate you to see if you have a treatable musculoskeletal condition. For example, if one muscle is weak because you have not been using it, or using it too much, then others may be affected. Or if you are not walking or exercising as you should, your muscles may work too hard to keep your balance. There are many possibilities. None is as severe as ALS, fortunately.

Thank you very much for your answers, but the fear inside me was not going away. Thanks to you, I feel a little relieved, thank you very much again. All my best wishes are with you.
