We have talked about his quackery and five-figure fees in the past, but CBC just did a pretty detailed investigation. And the cautionary tale of the promotional tactics used, including the assertion that they are not a medical facility, and using a video of a now-dead PALS as social proof, is one that can be applied to many other scams, in and out of ALS.

How sad that there are people in this world that take advantage of people in dire situations, or any kind of situation. Karma do your thing....

100% - Upvote for Karma. These people need to be brought to justice to prevent them from hurting others.

It's Unfortunately a sign of the world we live in, and thank God that 99% of people out there driving for a cure are legit. There are bad apples in the bunch. I'm still quite hopeful they are going to find something soon that will help.

One thing that isn't talked about a lot - the disease affects judgment (especially the co-with ALS+ Syndrome or FTD-MND Syndrome) which makes some "easier" targets for scams - it's not gullibility.

For me: I chose to let others take over the decisions - technically I still make them, but I don't have the button to push - which is some protection... Once it became clear what I had, I had to make one of the hardest decisions of my life... giving up control of my care and finances as I was worried that as this progresses I would do something REALLY stupid. That said, I was able to dictate the terms of my surrender (advance directives) - in a manner of speaking.

There are thousands upon thousands of health scams out there. I've seen them. I've called them out in groups on Facebook. Not just for ALS but for many diseases.

I've also seen very smart people (with Ph.D-level education) try very "out there treatments" for various things. I have a friend who had TN (they call it the suicide disease because it's so painful). She had a doctorate and was my colleague at the university. She was in such severe pain, she went to a quack and he did "crystal healing." She held stones. She took herbs from another doctor who wouldn't disclose what she was taking. Finally, she had brain surgery and her pain was reduced 50%. Now, she lives with pain meds and a soft diet.

It's so very sad to see people waste precious time and possibly progress with some of these scams.

(y) The more the scammers are exposed the better. Until then, I use alsuntangled.com
