First of all I want to say thank you to all of you that take your time to help those of us who become worried, it really means a lot.
About 8 weeks ago I suddenly started to get a lot of twitching in both my legs and thighs. For a few days it even felt like worms creeping under my skin. So I went to the doctor who took me seriously, did a proper clinical and found nothing to worry about. She also checked my iron, electrolytes and vitamins, kidney and liver function, which were all fine. She told me that it’s probably just stress.
I didn’t really think much about it, other than finding it annoying. The twitching spread gradually to the rest of my body over the next two weeks, but I didn’t think much of it before I was taking a shower and felt my left arm getting fatigued during a shower, almost to the point where it ached. I did all the wrong things and googled all my symptoms and it kinda made me worry. I decided to visit a neurologist about 6 weeks ago. Which did pretty much the same clinical as the other doctor did and told me she couldn’t find anything to worry about and that unless she found something in a clinical exam, she would not order an EMG. She told me that EMG was to confirm a suspicion from a clinical, which she found nothing to worry about at all. I went home and thought she’s probably right and I went on with my life, trying to ignore the fatigue in my left arm.
2 weeks later (about 4 weeks ago), I started to feel a bit fatigued in my right arm too, especially the lower part of my right arm. Again I found this strange and a bit worrisome so I went to the doctor again. The doctor did another clinical exam and drew blood to check my CK levels, which came back at 85, and told me this couldn’t be any lower and was a very good sign of a healthy body as it often is higher with people that work out like I do. All my reflexes were fine too. She told me stress and anxiety could cause my symptoms and that ALS wouldn’t really spread to several parts of my body before I had some form of clinical weakness, spasticity or trouble with my reflexes. I did ask about what else we could look for, but she couldn’t come up with something that seemed worrisome as
I also have a bit of swallowing issues, which I’ve had for at least 10 years, so I haven’t really put much thought into it before now, as it feels like it’s been getting a bit worse the past few weeks.
Things like carrying shopping bags, playing piano and computer games, have become tiring, to the point where the muscles in my arms start aching and getting stiff and feel difficult to move. Which feels like it’s been getting worse the past few weeks too.
Sorry about the grammar and language, english isn’t my native language, so hopefully you can make some sense of what I’m writing here. I’m a 37 year old male, in decent shape and otherwise healthy. I thought I should ask about your opinion as I’ve been wondering if this sounds anything like ALS. And sorry about the long post!
