Hi everyone,
First of all, wishing you good health and safety now and always.
I am a 45 year old woman. I was having some problems with my knees for two months, ordopedists applied prp and ozone treatments, they did not heal completely but they are in better condition.
1.5 months ago, I suddenly started having severe muscle spasms in the inner, anterior and posterior parts of my right upper leg. It was so severe that it moved my leg and was visible from the outside. When it didn't go away in a few hours, I went to the emergency room, doctors couldn't find anything other than a very mild low potassium. He made a sedative serum and sent it home.
When the spasms continued at the same intensity the next day, I went to the emergency room again. Back and brain MRIs were taken, the results were clear. Potassium was given intravenously. At that time, the same spasm started in my right arm. EMG was done and the results were clear. There was no pain during the spasms.
After 48 hours the spasms stopped and there were no other symptoms for about a month. 10 days ago I started twitching all over my body. I ignored them for a week, but it gradually increased. I went to see a neurologist on Monday and he had an emg done and he said it's perfectly normal.
Two days after that, I met the neurologist mother of my son's classmate and explained the situation and she said let's see it at our hospital, and yesterday they did a detailed EMG.
In this last emg, everything about the electrification part came out clean again, but this time they found some things in the needle emg. When I translate it from my own language, it says in the result section:
"at rest, motor unit potential transitions continue on ADM, APB and EDC muscles. And when I check the result table I saw that they found 2 each fibrillation in APB and EDC muscles.
They gave me two tests (voltage-gated potassium channel and voltage-gated sodium channel.) But results will come in two weeks.
It's a very long post, I apologize for this, but I'm very confused.
1- There was no fibrillation in the EMG taken at the beginning of the week. However, fibrillation was detected in the emg taken on Wednesday. What could this mean?
2- Is fibrillation seen in EMG something I should be afraid of? A red-flag for als?
3- I feel a softening in my leg muscles and there is also thinning in my legs, but I have been very inactive for 8 months, so I do not know if it is due to inactivity. During examination, reflex and strength tests were normal.
Doctors said it could be CFS/BFS. However, the detection of fibrillation made me worry. Should I get a different opinion?
Thanks in advance to anyone who reads and answers. I have a son I have after 7 IVF attempts and he is just 8 years old. I don't want to make him sad him with these worries, but I hope you can understand the doubt and fear I've been through.
I wish everyone a speedy recovery. Love.
Sorry I wrote reflexes were normal bur I remember that the doc said that there was no patellar reflex on my right knee. (No knee-jerk rexlex)
