I am a 15 yo male and since 6 months I have been having twitches all over my body. These occur occasionally and last a few seconds. Although there is no specific region, it occurs more frequently in my left upper arm but my eyelids and legs twitch too. All the muscles in my body are acting jerky and when I hold a long paintbrush, the brush shakes quite a bit. I dont feel any weaker or see any muscle wasting. I went to the doctor and she didnt know what was up. A few blood tests were done and I was diagnosed with beta thalassemia. I looked it up and I could find no cases where twitches were caused by this condition. Can someone please tell me what is wrong with me? I'm really scared that I have ALS.

Thanks.

You have a serious blood disease that should be monitored and treated accordingly. Since one of its consequences is anemia, which means your cells are not getting enough oxygen, occasional twitching, esp. when you are using fine motor control like in painting, or otherwise exert yourself, would not be surprising.

There is no reason that you have presented, to even think about ALS.

Best,
Laurie

Thanks for your reply, I did not see the aspect of anemia. I forgot to point out that I have bt minor and according to wiki it isn't very serious.

It sounds serious enough. I hope you will be seeing a specialist who can guide you through the various issues that will arise with your iron level issues.

Best of luck.

Thanks, I did not realise that it could be serious. I will be seeing a specialist as soon as possible. Have a good day and good luck with your ALS journey.
