The speech therapist at the ALS clinic recommended a voice amplifier. My speech is slightly slurred and I am unable to project my voice. It doesn’t get louder. It’s difficult to make myself heard in a group or a restaurant. Can anyone recommend a make or model that has helped or else one that does not work so I know what not to buy.
Thanks

Hi Bonny - if you are covered under Medicare/Medicaid, a voice amplifier is considered durable medical equipment (and possibly under private insurance). You would need to have your clinic put that in motion to get coverage. The model you get would depend on the coverage, but keep in mind there are a range of models (eg wired, wireless) and you might want to consider what will work best. I’m surprised your SLP didn’t have some suggestions so perhaps follow up with the clinic. Good luck!

Some PALS have used the ChatterVox. I do not have personal experience. Since the price is ~$300, I think most pay cash.

There are voice amplifiers on Temu for under $20. I’m not sure how good they are, but I will probably be buying one soon because my voice is going and I want to be sure to get one before they sell out.

Not sure about ordering anything from there. Notorious for sharing your data everywhere.

Hi Bonny, I also have issues projecting my voice and being heard in any noisy environment. I have a Zoweetek Original Voice Amplifier that I have used at a meeting I attended. I have not used it in a restaurant yet as the microphone while eating situation seems awkward, but it worked great at the meeting. I have a conference to attend in a few weeks and plan to take it with me.

Thanks ! This is the brand we have looked into.

Hi. Just to follow up, I got my voice amplifier from Temu, and it works fine. I don’t need it yet, but I have it for when I need it. The regular price was under $20, and with a deal I got it for just over $10. I’m not sure, but I think you can also play music on this device if you have a TF card, but you don’t need the TF card to use the amplifier.
