My brother has been in intensive care for the past week on life support. I spent the day with him yesterday and one of the nurses struck up a conversation with me.
She asked me if I was a relative and I told her he is my brother.
She then told me she's been a nurse for 24 years.
Then she asked me if I had a bad knee because I use a cane. I told her I had ALS and needed it to walk.
Then she said " isn't that the disease that they did the ice bucket challenge?" I said yes that's it.
She says "weren't they pouring ice on their heads to show how painful it is?"
I said no, it was to raise awareness for ALS. She said oh, I thought ALS made people cold!
Health professional ignorance at it's best!

A ovate today told steve he needed to improve his muscle strength. I asked her to exp,ain how muscle strength could improve if the nerve was dead. She said it was about preserving what you have not building new muscle.

Marty I'm so sorry about your brother! That must be heartbreaking for you. I'm glad you are able to be there for him.

If this chick has been a nurse for 24 years...she's not looking after your brother, right...

Love to you at this difficult time, Janelle xx

I like to say to people - the purpose of the bucket of ice is to indicate that being diagnosed with ALS is like having a bucket of ice water tipped over your head, except that it's way worse than that in reality...

sheesh

The thing younotice using the medical resources around you is they aren't as smart as you thought.
