If you're just looking for new laces to make runners easier to take on and off, I recommend elastic laces- I use Xpand brand ones. I tried a few others with clips and cinches to tighten and they got increasingly difficult to use as dexterity became a real issue. The Xpand ones (and there are other brands too) are just simple elastic laces. Ordered from the usual place online.
If you are looking at various shoe brands for new runners, the trend for big giant soles that extend further than the heel (Hoka, for instance) can be an issue. They are SO comfortable, but as fatigue affects stride, all of a sudden it becomes more difficult to not drag and catch. So they may go on very comfortably- but even 5 minutes after starting a walk, it may become more difficult and add to fatigue. I wear Vessi and New Balance shoes with lower profile soles. In the Summer I wear Keen sandals- great for walking and I can tell myself they're still kind of fashionable.
