My husband was a runner and would love to continue wearing his running shoes. Has anyone tried the elastic shoelaces that you can use to make them slip-ons? I see several brands out there... any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Yes. I got them on amazon. They were called locklaces. They work fine.

I have seen on orthofeet step in no hands shoes. I don’t have them but have other orthofeet shoes. They have a good return policy and frequent 25-35% off sales If you buy there don’t pay full price

Thank you. I appreciate you responding! We'll give them a try.

I also have Orthofeet.

I buy from them and they have wide and extra wide if needed.

If you're just looking for new laces to make runners easier to take on and off, I recommend elastic laces- I use Xpand brand ones. I tried a few others with clips and cinches to tighten and they got increasingly difficult to use as dexterity became a real issue. The Xpand ones (and there are other brands too) are just simple elastic laces. Ordered from the usual place online.

If you are looking at various shoe brands for new runners, the trend for big giant soles that extend further than the heel (Hoka, for instance) can be an issue. They are SO comfortable, but as fatigue affects stride, all of a sudden it becomes more difficult to not drag and catch. So they may go on very comfortably- but even 5 minutes after starting a walk, it may become more difficult and add to fatigue. I wear Vessi and New Balance shoes with lower profile soles. In the Summer I wear Keen sandals- great for walking and I can tell myself they're still kind of fashionable.

Thank you! The doctors suggested that my husband stop running due to the fatigue factor. But I'll pass your info on to him in case he decides to try again.

Hi. I don’t know if swollen feet is an issue, but it is a problem for me. I was a size 7 before ALS, so when I had to get new runners, I found a brand with a generous return policy and ordered a size 8. It was too small so I ordered an 8.5 and Amazon picked up the 8. The 8.5 was too small so I finally ordered a 9 wide, and Amazon picked up the 8.5. The 9 fit. I think they were sketchers, but women’s. I don’t know what the return policy is like for the men’s sketchers. I also bought moccasins in a 9, which are good because they’re slip ons. The only problem is that they have rubber soles, which is good for preventing slips, but also doesn’t allow you to shuffle, which is all I can do with my right foot when I try to step backwards. I’m getting a pair of traditional moccasins, that have a slippery suede sole, and will try to walk with them, although carefully. It’s hard to find shoes that don’t have rubber soles. Hope this helps.🤗

Thank you, Kim! We'll take a look at their site.

Lori, I appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll pass the information along to my husband!
